Substrate for Leopards

I can't find any coco coir for my Leopards here in Spain. I can get the bricks that turn into bucketfuls of coir when water is added but I think that's too fine:am I right? I can buy big bags of pine as used for lizards etc. Is this OK to use or is the pine a no no for tortoises?

That's the stuff I used, you put it in a bucket and just add water.

Other substrate I've used is,:

Topsoil
Aubiose hemp
Carpet
Newspaper
Hay pellets
Sand

I think that's it lol.

Isn't it too fine though? I can imagine them coming out of their cave in the morning covered in fine coir,up their noses and in their eyes! This doesn't happen to yours?? Mine are quite big,6 years old, over 2 kilos.

Not that I noticed, doesn't get as dusty as soil does.

I've used it for my leopard (12" long , 10lbs) and my hermanns.

I usually mix the coir with topsoil 50/50. Works good for me.

I use the bricks of coir for my hatchlings and I keep it moist so it packs nice. Works great for me.
