I've probably done it wrong, haven't I...?

Personally I think there are going to be a lot of disapointed tort owners if people keep asking about the sex of tiny torts. Ok some are bigger than others but many experienced keepers have been surprised when their females have become male at a few years of age.

One reason I rearly attempt it .

My star group came to me as 4 males 2yrs ago and to be honest they all did show typical male characteristics , they soon changed sex however as they grew and are now 3 female and 1 male not that i'm dispointed at all :D

I have just seen it so many times Darren, the prime example with mine being my lost female emerging as fully fledged male after hibernating underground for 6 months.

Sorry for wasting people's time - was told last night that at 16cm it should be fairly easy to tell the sex. I'm just going to carry on calling her 'her' - need the male / female balance in my household tipped in my favour a bit! And anyway, I think she looks like a girl!

Cheers

Lisa

I tend to agree in this case that at 16cms she is most likely female. It just seems a shame that people are asking about hatchlings and not much bigger who could well end up disappointed or worse buy other torts on the strength of what sesx is given. I am not having a go just don't like to see people disappointed - so go ahead an paint it pink LOL

I would say Female, she does look quite big, and as 16cm you should be able to tell.

But, my two looked Male and Female, only the other way round (We started calling tommy Tommy Girl, as in the perfume LOL) and then when i got back of holiday and picked him up from sue- Gus's tail was tiny, and tommy flashed at her and had a massive tail!

either that or they died and she swapped them

Cheers guys - I was told she was a he when I got her, but I reckon she's a girly. To be honest, I don't really care, as long as she's happy and healthy! Isn't she just the most beautiful tortoise you've ever seen?? Or am I a bit biased? LOL!
