Hello all - I have just joined the site, here are some pics of our new tort. Linford, or gonzales, or shelly, we have not decided on a name yet!!!

Hi Nicky,
Your set-up looks great :D . Just a few questions, Do you know the temperature under your heat lamp? It looks a little high above the substrate. Do you have a UVB light for your set-up?

Hi Dan - I am using a powersun UV 160w bulb and I highered it just to take the pics!!! - the temp is approx 30degrees - Is that ok???

That's a great bulb :D I'd lower it till you get a temperature of 32C under the light.

Thanks everyone :lol: I am going to put into practise all your suggestions first thing tomorrow (I was worried he would get bored)

it was really warm and sunny here today, so we took him outside for his first ramble - It was fantastic to see him motoring around!! :o

We really thought long and hard about getting him as they are not easy to look after, but I have hand reared a cat from 2 days old and have horses, dogs, cats and cows and my hubby has always wanted one - they are such fantastic little characters. :P

I actually have three, but our little old pony is on loan to a lovely little girl.

Bonno is an 18hh Gelderlander and Ely is a 15hh coloured Cob!!

It looks great Nicky :D I'd just watch out with the plant pot so close to the side. Tortoises are great climbers and he might use that to climb out.

Ha ha!! - we have moved the plant just enough so that he cannot climb out but can go round the back and I spray the plants each day at least a couple of times and they are doing fine!! - I put some pansy plants in and he takes a nibble now and then!! :lol:

:lol: I have had so much fun changing the table and have learnt valuable tips from this site - One thing that I learnt myself was not to put my pile of stones too close to the UV lamp, as they get far, far too hot (burny hot in fact!!) :roll: :oops:
