to many baths ?

i know all the benefits of bathing torts


but is there a case when a tort might be recieving to many baths


1 for reds

2 for other torts

can to frequent bathing cause the tort to become prone to medical conditions :?: :?:

Linda I bath my med speices twice occasionly three times a week, this is babies though adults are given water access in there enclosures via large shallow water bowels , if the weather is very hot i will soak adults .

baths/soaks are from 5-10mis in warm water.

I never soak my redfoots they seem to naturally soak them selves , but i do recommend new keepers of my babies soak for a while till they become accustomed to there new enclosure.

I go to great trouble to ensure all my tortoises are bathed regularly !!!

On Sunday I bathed them, one of my females just wanted out as usual, later in the afternnon we had some really REALLY heavy down pours, after things had calmed down a bit i shot out to make sure my tortoises were not swimming is inches of water, only to find this female head out of the greenhouse, in a muddy puddle of water drinking the fresh cool water !!!

behind her she sat in a puddle of wee and urates !!!!!!

I think we fuss a bit much over our babies, i keep my outside pens stocked with rain water and see them drink this more than anything i offer from the tap !!!

i enjoy giving my ladies a bath

and also they do look much prettier wet :lol:

but was a bit worried if to many baths could be the cause of some fungal infection or worse

i would GUESS providing your environment is correct your tortoise will be fine with thier ever so regular baths.....

At the end of the day if they have water in the enclousre they could quite easily have two or three baths a day !!!

One of my babies always has mud boots where he/she is in and out of the water dish !!

Small tortoises can dehydrate very quickly, hence the need for more bathing.

We bath Jez every other day (sometimes daily) as I never see him drink... but I am sure the cheeky little man does it when I'm not in the room.

In general, you can't get a Red too wet :)

No I doubt this very much as long as soaks are kept to a 5-10 min schedule and the tortoises is returned its enclosure were it can bask to dry out which takes minutes i don't see how any fungal infection could set in.
